Winter 2016 Movement Classes

Gentle Vinyasa Yoga

This class will begin with a sound meditation to calm the mind and body first. We will then gently flow through sun salutations and basic yoga postures to create space, balance and holistic health.

T’ai Chi
Vaughn Thorsteinson
Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that’s now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.
10 weeks: January 13–March 16
Wednesdays, 8:00–9:00 pm
Members: $100 | Non-Members: $115

Seniors’ Seated T’ai Chi
Vaughn Thorsteinson
T’ai chi forms and movements are adapted in this course for primarily a seated position. Ideal for people with limited mobility, balance, or flexibility.
10 weeks: January 14–March 17
Intermediate: Thursdays, 11 am–12 pm
Beginner: Thursdays, 12–1 pm

Fall 2014 Movement Classes

Hatha Yoga

This class is based on the Iyangar method of Hatha yoga. During each class we will connect to a different part of our physical and subtle bodies, to increase flexibility, strength, balance, concentration and to create a connection to
body through breath.  The use of props helps to bring students closer to proper alignment in the practice of the poses (asana) suitable for all
levels, beginners welcome.

Gentle/ Senior Friendly Yoga
Jean Olenick
This class is designed for people who may have limited or restricted mobility. The class can be done in the comfort of a chair, and the use of walls and supports is extensive. Emphasis will be on precise movement with breath to keep the spine supple and increase mobility in the joints.
